Surprising Europe; Episode 5: Culture Shock

What is it like to live in Europe with an African identity? Does integration have its limits, or are we going native?

As an African migrant you’ll have to find a way to deal with European culture. Sometimes, your own habits perfectly go along with local customs. And sometimes you are not accepted, bluntly because you weren’t born in Europe. Wonda Wendy is a French-Gabonese singer, who thinks Europeans can learn from Africans, for example how to raise their children. Moussé from Senegal learnt many things from Turid, his Dutch wife, for instance how to plan his schedule. As an emancipated family man, he shares the tasks of taking care of his children and the house with his wife.

Guest reporter Adé Bantu presents his collective Brothers Keepers, that he founded after a wave of racism motivated murders in Germany.  And Ugandan journalist Ssuuna Golooba gets used to The Netherlands: he participates in an ice cold tradition on New Year’s day.
